Throughout high school, Jason always had a passion for competitive sports. He played Football and volleyball for both high school and provincial leagues. It was here where his passion for fitness was born. The idea of training hard in the gym to gain better results on the field came from one of his teachers who was a competitive body builder and athlete. This teacher always pushed him to be, “faster and stronger than the day before”.
After weeks of strength and performance training, Jason was able to convince some of his teammates to join him in the gym. What followed this was two years of championship wins for the team. This success solidified the idea in his head that the gym was not just about changing the way you look, but also changing the way you can perform and feel about yourself.
After graduating high school, Jason worked for a variety of companies in various industries. No matter the role or the work he performed, his commitment to the gym and a healthy lifestyle remained strong.
In 2006, Jason became a Police Officer. While at police college, he spent mornings and nights in the gym both working out and training other recruits.
Over the next few years, despite the stress and the shift work schedule, Jason continued to train and push himself in the gym to ensure he was fit and capable of performing his duties to the highest level possible.
During this time, his friends and colleagues would often seek advice from him due to his level of commitment and methods of training. This was where his passion for helping others with fitness began.
Over the next 17 years, Jason developed various workout and nutrition plans for others based on information that he had obtained over the years from his personal reading and research; mainly published papers and university textbooks.
Throughout this time, Jason worked and trained in various gyms in and around the city, both public, private and at home. He has had the chance to work and train with a variety of people such as amateur and professional athletes, competitive bodybuilders, and fitness competitors. Training with these high caliber athletes and their trainers fueled his passion and led to him becoming a Certified Personal Trainer himself.
I was introduced to Shaping You Fitness at a moment in time when I just didn’t know where to go with my approach to food and exercise. There are so many operating schools of thought out there.
Perfect Partnership
In 2022, Marc-Andre approached Jason with the idea of partnering to create a customized fitness program to help others achieve a healthier lifestyle as a result of seeing him in the gym working with others.
Marc-Andre was impressed with how Jason was able to communicate with people he had just met and walk them through various exercises and offer valued advice on food, supplements, recovery, and training plans.
In 2023, Jason decided to join Marc-Andre with this venture and the two of them started the company Shaping You Fitness. Since starting SYF, Jason is passionate with his desire to learn and grow as a fitness professional and is currently enrolled in the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) where he will continue to learn, grow and seek further certifications.
